How To Prevent Diaper Rash

Keep your baby’s bottom healthy

You can’t always prevent diaper rash, but you can significantly reduce its occurrence with a few simple steps.

  • Keep baby’s skin clean and dry

  • Allow diaper area to dry before reapplying diaper

  • Protect your baby’s tender skin with a diaper rash treatment

1. Clean your baby’s skin

Number one is keeping your baby’s skin clean and dry. The best way to do this is changing wet or soiled diapers right away. Knowing when your baby needs a change isn’t always easy so check the diaper at least once every two hours just in case. For babies with diaper rash and/or diarrhea, check even more often. When changing diapers, use gentle wipes designed to suit your baby’s needs. Your best choices are wipes that have been clinically tested or proven mild to the skin. A soft, wet washcloth is also a great way to gently clean the diaper area. Warm water should do the job; use a gentle baby cleanser only if the stool does not come off easily. Use your wipe or washcloth to gently pat skin, (avoid rubbing to prevent further irritating damaged skin). If you’ve already applied a diaper rash treatment at the previous diaper change, don’t worry about removing any leftover cream. Clean the soiled, outer layer and leave the cream on the skin to avoid damaging delicate skin as it heals.

2. Allow diaper area to dry

Once you’ve finished cleaning, pat your baby’s bottom dry (remember not to rub!) or if possible, allow your baby to go without a diaper for a little while to let their bottom air-dry.

3. Protect from further damage

Finally, create a barrier that protects the skin from further damage while creating a more optimal environment to allow the irritated skin to heal by applying one of the PENATEN® diaper rash treatments to protect baby’s skin. The cream creates a barrier that helps protect and prevent friction caused by the diaper.

Apply a thick layer of a zinc oxide diaper rash treatment, PENATEN® Medicated Cream or PENATEN® Creamy Medicated Diaper Rash Treatment, to soothe and protect your baby’s irritated skin at each diaper change.

The thick, rich formula of PENATEN® Medicated Cream stays in place to help provide relief to rashes and chafed skin.

PENATEN® Creamy Medicated Diaper Rash Treatment instantly forms a protective layer on your baby’s skin and glides on easily to help soothe and relieve diaper rash discomfort.
